Broward Schools Reassignment Application Online

Before you complete your application, make note of a few important facts:

  • Before completing a magnet application, you will need to ensure that your child has a student identification number with Broward County Public Schools. You many secure the identification number from your child's home boundary school or any public school in Broward County.
  • Students applying to kindergarten must be five years old by September 1st.
  • A copy of the applicant’s most recent report card must be submitted by mail, fax, or email. (Middle School and High School applicants only)
  • All applicants must provide a copy of most recent FSA test scores by mail, fax, or email. (Middle School and High School applicants only) If FSA scores are not available, applicants must provide nationally recognized standardized test scores in reading and mathematics.

Please note: All Middle and High school applicants must submit a copy of their most recent report card and FSA test scores to Demographics and Student Assignments by mail, fax, or email. Applications will NOT be processed until your report card and FSA test scores have been received. If FSA scores are not available, applicants must provide nationally recognized standardized achievement test scores in reading and mathematics.

Incomplete Applications

Faxed or incomplete applications will NOT be processed. Only one application per student will be accepted. Applications received or postmarked after February 8, 2017 will be processed at a later date pending space availability. 

Parent Involvement 

School Choice/Reassignment

A student's attendance area is assigned based on the address of their parent/guardian. School boundaries are established annually and approved by the School Board in accordance with Florida Statutes and School Board Policy 5000. After the first day of school, students must be enrolled in and attending their assigned Broward County Public School in order to be considered for reassignment.

Reassignments will not be granted to schools that are at capacity, critically overcrowded schools or to schools approaching the critically overcrowded criteria. All out-of-county reassignment requests will be denied unless they are renewals or from parents/guardians who are School Board employees.

Student Reassignment Forms must be submitted between May 1st and June 15th for the following school year.

AYP/No Child Left Behind

Title I schools that do not make Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) for at least two years in a row come under what the Federal Government calls school improvement status.  All students who are enrolled in these schools are eligible for school choice.  This includes incoming sixth grade to middle school or Kindergarten students who are registered to attend that elementary school. Broward County Schools provides various school choices for you and your school-age children.  If you believe that your assigned school is not the best choice for your child, there are other options to choose from:

  • Reassignment – Pick a different school if your assigned school is overcrowded
    You can apply for attendance at another school in the District that is not overcrowded.   The student must FIRST be enrolled in the assigned school. Just follow these steps:
    1. Complete a.    
    2. These applications must be submitted between May 1 and six weeks before the new school year starts for first semester; between December 1 and January 15 for second semester.
    3. If reassignment is granted, transportation is the responsibility of the parents or guardian.
    4. If the reassignment is denied, you may appeal to the Superintendent's Hardship Committee through a written request to the Placement/Reassignment Department, 7770 West Oakland Park Blvd., Sunrise,Florida 33351.

Certain restrictions apply to this process, so review the detailed instructions online or through the principal’s office of your current school.

  • Charter Schools – Choose a private operator
    Charter Schools offer another choice for parents. These are state-funded public schools run by private companies.  They are free to create their own class materials, teaching style and rules.  Enrollment requires a personal visit to the school.

  • Magnet Schools – Focus on a subject
    Magnet Schools offer the chance to get a deeper education in a specific subject area such as science, technology, the arts or international business. These focused programs offer practical, hands-on experiences. Applicatiare available at or at any public school and must be sent to the Broward Schools offices at 600 SE 3rd Avenue, 4th floor, Fort Lauderdale, FL, 33301.  Some programs require a certain grade point average.  For more information, visit 

  • Nova Schools– Chose a unique learning community
    The four Nova schools offer kindergarten through adult students a high quality education focused on student achievement. Any Broward County resident is eligible to attend the Nova Schools.  Students on the existing waiting list get priority.  Applications are available   and must be submitted between the first day of school in January through March 31. Go to departments, then pupil placement.

  • CollegeAcademy at BCC – Two diplomas at once
    Entering high school juniors with a 3.0 grade point and teacher recommendation, among other requirements, may enter this program.  The two-year academy allows students to graduate with both a high school diploma and a two-year associates of arts degree from Broward Community College.
